About this tour

Imagine traveling around Mont Blanc crossing the most legendary passes and experiencing the largest Harley-Davidson rally in France in one time. This is what Universal Riders offers to 20 privileged customers between July 10 and July 17, 2019.

This 7 day self-guided tour is a unique opportunity to discover the Alps and enjoy an exceptional event that takes place once every 2 years. Every day you can admire the mythical Mont Blanc with different angles of view through 3 countries (France, Switzerland and Italy). So open your eyes wide and enjoy the journey: this route is to be done at least once in your life as a biker!

    Without any doubt, you will be treated as a king in Lyon. The former capital of the Gauls is known for its “bon vivant” spirit. Located at the confluence of the Rhone and Saone rivers, the city is packed with history. Take advantage of this first day to discover the local marvels, from the Roman ruins and the old medieval city to the Confluence neighborhood, Place Bellecour, Fourvière, la Part Dieu...

    But before heading out to explore Lyon, make sure to stop at our Universal Riders location to review the last details of your 7-day trip through the Alps. If needed, a free shuttle service can be arranged from your hotel.

    This first day of driving begins smoothly across the Ain region. We highly recommend you to take a short break in the medieval city of Pérouges ranked among the Most Beautiful Villages of France.

    Then, head for the Bugey mountain range to reach the Belvedere restaurant, which is located on the top of Col de la Chambotte (650m). This restaurant, built in 1882, serves fine cuisine made with regional products and offers a breathtaking view of Bourget Lake .

    After lunch has been swallowed, you will drive accross the Bauges mountain range and climb the Semnoz which panoramic view of the Mont Blanc. Your route will finally take you to Annecy, the city of your first stop. After getting your room at the hotel, we highly advice you to discover the historical treasures of the "Alpine Venice" and its large and beautiful lake of glacial origin.

    Today we get to the heart of the matter!

    Your objective of the day is to negotiate, at least, 150 kilometers of curves and pins to join the famous resort of Morzine, host city of the "French Alps Harley Days".

    On your way, you will drive through not less than 4 mythical Tour de France passes (Col de la Croix Fry 1467m, Col de la Colombiere 1613m, Col de Romme 1297m, Col de Joux Plane 1691m) which will put your Harley Davidson and your muscles to the test. Take advantage of each of these majestic passes to rest, take some memorable shots of this beautiful region or enjoy the sausages or cheeses of local producers.

    The acrobatic descent of the Col de Joux Plane will finally bring you to the heart of Morzine where more than 80.000 bikers will gather for 2 full party days.

    Once settled in your hotel room, the party will be awaiting you. To recover from your emotions of the day we advise you to taste authentic regional specialities such as tartiflette, croziflette, raclette or fondue. Nothing but heavy!

    Today program: relaxation and party!

    The French Alps Harley Days are eagerly awaited by all European bikers because Harley Davidson has made the choice to organize this concentration only on odd years. If you miss the date, you will have to wait until 2021!

    The event will be held again in the Morzine resort, nestled in the mountains of Haute-Savoie. This year, more than 100,000 participants are expected and certainly not less than 30,000 motorcycles.

    Chance of the calendar or will of the organizers, the French Alps Harley Days will close on July 14th which is the day of the French National Day.

    On July 13 and 14, 2019, France is celebrating, Morzine is celebrating, Harley Davidson is celebrating!

    The 2019 vintage of the French Alps Harley Days will be grand and the night of Saturday, July 13, 2019 will mark the history of Morzine and motorcycle rallies.

    It is celebrating the French national day that you will leave Morzine heading Val d'Isère.

    Today's program, a journey of 300 kilometers around Mont Blanc and a visit to our neighbors Swiss and Italians.

    The curves of the Corbier pass (1237m) will heat your muscles and your tires and it is through the Pas de Morgins (1371m) that you will cross the Swiss border. The link between Switzerland and Italy will be made by the col du Grand St-Bernard (2,469 m) and the return to France by his little brother the Col du Petit St-Bernard (2,188 m).

    It is by the acrobatic descent of La Rosière that you will join the Maurienne Valley which leads to the Val d'Isère resort, the end of this day on the road.

    Head south for a beautiful loop towards Bourg Saint-Maurice.

    Today's objective, some of the highest passes in the Alps driving your bike.

    Start your machine and have a look up to see you first pass, the Col de l’Iseran (2,770m). Continue then to reach Col du Mont Cenis (2,081m) by which you will tip in Italy.

    It is by the Col de Montgenèvre (1,850m) that you will make your return to France to reach Briançon, the highest city in France. This city is also remarkable for its Vauban fortifications, registered with the world heritage of UNESCO. It is the perfect place to eat and refuel before facing four other giants of the Alps, Col du Lautaret (2,057m), Col du Galibier (2,642m), Col du Telegraph (1,566m), Col de la Madeleine (1,993m), which are on the program of the 2nd part of the day.

    After 140 kilometers of vertiginous roads, the first houses of Bourg Saint Maurice will appear, as well as the majestic road to Les Arcs, your stop for the day. Les Arcs offer, no question asked, the most exceptional balcony on the chain of Mont Blanc.

    A sporty day is awaiting you on this fourth day. The program: discover the Savoy region through its most beautiful passes. You will travel through the Cormet de Roseland (1,968m), the Méraillet pass (1,605m), the Saisies pass (1,633m), the Aravis pass (1,486m) and the Colombière pass (1,613m).

    Make a stop at Roselend Lake, located 1,600 m above sea level, in Arèche-Beaufort. This place is really  extraordinary. Its turquoise blue reminds of the Caribbean sea and the reigning calm imposes serenity.

    You will also discover, along the road, some beautiful villages like Beaufort (famous for its cheese). But also, ski resorts that made the reputation of Savoy as Les Saisies, Flumet, Giettaz, La Clusaz, Grand Bornand and finally Chamonix, which will be your final destination. Once the motorcycles parked, take the opportunity to admire the “Mer de Glace”, the largest glacier in France (7 km long and 200 m thick). This panorama is breathtaking.

    This last day of driving has no specific difficulty with the exception of Col du Grand Colombier (1,498 m).

    This winding road, often showing percentages above 20%, will take you to the summit and enjoy a panorama of the Alps and Geneva (Switzerland). The last 150 kilometers to Lyon will be made through the Bugey massif and the Ain region which is very popular with local bikers.

    Once the motorcycles returned, a free-shuttle will bring back you to your hotel.

    we highly advise you enjoy your last night in this beautiful city. Lyon is the capital of French gastronomy so, try one of the countless Lyonnais “corks” (traditional local restaurants) to taste some very local and surprising dishes.
