About this tour

The Atlantic coast is one of the best places you have to visit when travelling through Europe.

You will discover natural wonders, but also historical towns and cities surrounded by beaches or overhanging the Atlantic coast. And what about the roads, they are a really paradise for bikers!

Spain and Portugal are two very nice countries marked with history, culture, magnificent landscapes and warm days. The gastronomy is also very elaborated there, with various traditions shared between sea and mountain. Are you ready to start a 9 days riding adventure with Universal Riders?

  • Day 1
    Starting the self-guided tour at Bordeaux
    Starting the self-guided tour at Bordeaux

    Bordeaux, its water mirror, city of wine and the historical center. Bordeaux is a very nice town, with a classified heritage at the UNESCO. The city is worth a look this is why your journey will start here. Once you have chosen your high-end motorcycle at our Bordeaux agency and also when the papers are filled up, you will have all your time to visit Bordeaux and walk around the streets marked by the 19th century’s architecture.

    Also, you should know that if you arrive by plain, a free vehicle will drive you from your airport to the hotel.

  • Day 2
    Bordeaux-Biarritz (250 km)
    Bordeaux-Biarritz (250 km)

    For this first day of the journey, hit the road towards the South-West for a firsts top to Arcachon. After a first visit of this famous seaside city, ride down to the Dune du Pilat, one of the biggest and impressive European sand dune with 115 m high.


    Then, you will ride along the Côte d’argent, crossing the Landes de Gascogne forest, where you will then discover some of the largest Atlantic coast beaches: Biscarosse, Seignosse and Hossegor.

    You will arrive to Biarritz in the end of afternoon, once registered in the hotel, you will be free to visit this nice and peacefull town overhanging on the top of the Atlantic coast. It is a famous spot for surfers, because most of the time the ocean is quite wavy. If you follow the coast, you will go through nice footpaths with a really nice view on the ocean and the natural rock formations.

    Biarritz- Bardenas Reales (230 km)

    For this second riding day you will cross the Spanish frontier and ride your motorcycle towards Navarre, the road you will take is also famous for cycling.

    You will go south towards Pampelune, historical town and a must see place on your way to Saint Jacques de Compostelle. You should even stop there for lunch and then do cultural activites there before riding to Valborda mounts.

    At the end of the day you will end up at the Bardenas Reales desert, a 42 000 ha large dry sandy very looking like a mix between an African desert and the Grand canyon.

    Bardenas- Santander (320 km)
    Bardenas- Santander (320 km)

    Today is going to be a cultural day, for this 4th day of journey, you will discover Bilbao where is located the famous Guggenheim museum. You will then ride towards the North West to discover the Cantabrie and its mountain villages. At the end of the day you will arrive to Santander a seaside city , with one of the most beautiful bays in the world

  • Day 5
    Santander- Ribadeo (315 km)
    Santander- Ribadeo (315 km)

    Head North for this 4th day of roadtrip, you will discover today the North of Spain by crossing various remarquable villages like Barquera, Llanes and Luarça. You should stop for lunch in one of these ports to taste local seafood and enjoy the nice scenaries. You will then head towards the coast to go to Ribadeo.

    Ribadeo-Vigo (280 km)
    Ribadeo-Vigo (280 km)

    Ride down South-West among a beautiful road following the river Eo, known for its fishing salmon activity.

    You will then go through Lugo and then further away you will find Saint Jacques de Compostelle. Take a few hours of your time to visit this place, known to be a pilgrim’s destination, some pilgrims walk thousands of miles across Europe to arrive there. Head down South towards Vigo at the end of the day where you can enjoy a night’s rest.

    Another day fulfilled with beautiful landscapes and discoveries. You will start by crossing the Portuguese frontier in order to follow the coast by crossing the town of Vianna do Castleo, a city full of history and Portuguese culture. Further away, you will arrive at Porto.

    The magnificent city is known for its wine but also its architecture, the large bridges etc. Roam in the medieval district of Ribeira and discover hidden narrow paved streets lined with small coffee shops and authentic houses.

    You will end the day in Aveiro, known for its canals with the nice multicolour small boats.

    Aveiro-Lisbon (270 km)

    This is your last day so enjoy riding the motorcycle down the southern Portuguese coast towards the capital, Lisbon. You will go through Figueira da Foz before arriving to Nazaré. Nazaré is very famous and known worldwide to be the most impressive surf spot.

    The biggest waves in the whole surf history have been scene here! Before hitting the road again enjoy the local food and the view onto the ocean. Further away, you will go past Caldas da Rainha, famous city for its ceramics and art. You will then arrive in Lisbonne, your final destination where you can have a walk in the Bairro Alto district before enjoying a well deserved night.

    It is time to bring back your motorcycle in our Lisbon Universal Riders agency. But before anything, don’t neglect a visit of this beautiful city, rich in historical and cultural heritage.

    Lisbon is considered to be one of the most charismatic European cities, from Alfama, historical district, to Chiado, commercial and chic district. Also don’t forget that we will make sure to organize your trip back to the station or airport.
