You will arrive in Biarritz in late afternoon. You will then be free to settle at the hotel before roaming in this peaceful city nicknamed “Queen of the Beaches”. Walk through the Old Port and enjoy the locals’ gentle lifestyle.

A brief excursion in Spain is planned in the late morning. You will then travel East toward Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port. The itinerary will then take you through several winding roads until you reach the Pyrenees National Park. Argelès-Gazost – Andorre la Vieille (290 km - 180 miles)

A rather athletic day awaits you on this 4th day of the trip: you will drive through the Pyrenean passes, which were made famous by the Tour de France.

You will travel toward Barèges, where the sinuous Tourmalet road begins. Peaking at 2,115 meters, the notorious Tourmalet pass is one of the highest passes of the Pyrenees. It offers spectacular views of the surrounding area.

You will then be able to admire the Pic du Midi de Bigorre. With 2,865 meters high, the view is truly worth the trip! If you are up to it, you can take the cable car all the way to the top to visit the Observatory.

At the end of the day, you will reach Andorre-la-Vieille, the Principality’s oldest city.

You will cross a number of charming villages in the Ariège and Aude counties before reaching Carcassonne early in the afternoon. You will then have the rest of the day off, for a well-deserved break, allowing you to explore the city at your leisure.

Listed as a UNESCO National Heritage site, this ancient and well preserved city is full of history and architectural delights that will especially please “old stones” enthusiasts. Surrounded by ancient walls, the Medieval city of Carcassone and its castle will reveal all of their secrets to you!

    Carcassonne – Aigues-Mortes (180 km - 112 miles)

You will only be traveling for 112 miles (180 km) on this 6th day of our self-guided motorcycle trip from Bordeaux to Marseille.

You will leave Carcassone late in the morning and travel Northeast. You will drive through cities such as Béziers, Agde, Sète and Palavas-les-Flots before reaching another notorious medieval location: Aigues-Mortes.

Located in the Gard county, right next to the beautiful Camargue region, the port and ancient walls of Aigues-Mortes were built between 1240 and 1272 by Louis the 9th (Saint Louis), King of France, who wished to gain direct access to the Mediterranean Sea.

Don’t forget to taste the local delicacy, the “fougasse aigues-mortaise.” This brioche-based pastry can be made salty or sweet and is often part of the 13 Christmas desserts, traditionally served in the Provence region.

    Night in Aigues-Mortes.

Departing from Aigues-Mortes, you will begin by the Camargue park, essentially spread out between the two deltas of the Rhône river and up to Arles.

Heading North, you will then travel along the Rhône and drive through Les-Baux-de-Provence, as well as the archeological site of Glanum, located in the heart of the Alpilles mountains, before arriving in Avignon, “the Popes’ City”, for lunch.

Finally, in the afternoon, you will head East and follow the small roads of the Luberon natural park before heading down to Marseille at the end of the day.
